Golden moments under the rainbow at RockyGrass 2014

By John Lehndorff 1:45 p.m. July 26, Lyons – Minnesota’s Pert Near Sandstone is twanging traditionally at the 42nd Rockygrass Festival as folks hang out in the peaceful creek under the cliffs as moments linger from Friday, one of the best I’ve experienced in 30-something years of attending these festivals in Colorado including the double rainbow over Planet Bluegrass as Bela Fleck and Abby Washburn gave a warm, heartfelt set to the audience which gave Planet Bluegrass’ Craig Ferguson a standing […]

  • Dueling banjos under a double rainbow at 2014 RockyGrass

By John Lehndorff 7 p.m. July 25, Lyons: To jazz and gypsy music fans, John Jorgenson is a guitar deity. Telluride fans know John Randall as a guitarist and singer with Sam Bush and Lyle Lovett. Herb Pedersen was a member of The Dillards, the Desert Rose Band, and Old and the In The Grey (filling in for Jerry Garcia on banjo). When Craig Ferguson announced that Rockygrass would take place itBut looking out on the grassy field, the 4,000 bluegrass fans, the creek flowing under the cliffs and you wouldn’t know the devastation had occurred. But when the first notes of traditional bluegrass rang out […]

It’s also good news for the event’s many fans, who bought up tickets in record speed. Three-day passes sold out within 24 hours and single-day passes were all gone six weeks earlier than ever before, according to Planet Bluegrass spokesman Brian Eyster. But […]
