Aer perform ‘Spades, Clubs & Diamonds’
Aer perform “Spades, Clubs & Diamonds” at Second Story Garage in Boulder, Colo.
David von Mering and Carter Schultz developed a musical partnership in high school. Lots of high school students start bands, but these guys were serious about it, and they turned it into a full-time gig.
They go by Aer, a pop hip-hop duo that released its second album in January. The self-titled album features “Says She Loves Me,” which drips with hit-single potential. You’ll be singing along after one listen. Go ahead and give it a whirl — the guys included the song in their Second Story Garage set.
Aer was in the middle of tour when they pulled up to the Daily Camera offices several weeks ago. It was about 10 a.m., and the drummer, bass player and DJ whom Aer tours with were still asleep. Von Mering and Schultz treated us to an acoustic set, which really showed the basic strength of their act.
Aer plans to continue touring the country until heading to European dates at the end of June. They say they like to have as much fun as possible, and they appeared to be doing just that when their van — which resembles an oversized SWAT vehicle with a trailer attached to it — came through Colorado. They had a day to take in the local tourist delights, including the ones permitted by a recent change in the law.
Their Garage set included “Says She Loves Me” and “Spades, Clubs & Diamonds,” the first track from the new album. They play the songs with a full band on stage, but when you watch the acoustic performances you’ll get a different kind of Aer. After you watch the performances, check out the guys’ interview with Quentin.
What they brought us: Copies of their two CDs, The Bright Side and Aer.
