Great American Taxi perform ‘Clara Belle’

Great American Taxi perform “Clara Belle” at Second Story Garage.

Great American Taxi is one of Colorado’s favorite bands, and its former frontman, Vince Herman, who also plays with Leftover Salmon, was one of the state’s favorite musical personalities. When Herman left the GAT, fans were left wondering how the band would continue.

Taxi answered with Taylor Sims. It was a brilliant move.

Sims was one of the driving forces behind local bluegrass band Spring Creek, which, in 2007, became the first act to win the band competitions at both the Telluride and Rockygrass bluegrass festivals. Spring Creek consisted of four stellar musicians, and guitarist Sims was a standout among them. His chops were undeniable. His voice was compelling. He wrote great songs.

When GAT announced Sims as the new frontman, he seemed like the obvious choice. Want proof? Watch the results here when the band performed “Penny Arcade,” “Clara Belle” and “Silver Fiddle.” The band came to the Garage and showcased Great American Taxi 2.0. Sims wasn’t a temporary patch. It’s as if he were meant to be part of the band, which includes Chad Staehly, Jim Lewin, Chris Sheldon and Brian Adams. Be sure to check out their interview with Quentin, too.

What they brought us: Several of the band’s CDs.
