Second Story Garage: Danny Shafer performs ‘Small Town Blues’
Danny Shafer performs “Small Town Blues.”
Danny Shafer has been entertaining crowds on the Front Range for a long time and in various guises. Many local music fans remember his band The Unknown Americans. Lately, he has been rocking area stages with his band the 21st Century. Some people, however, prefer his solo act.
That’s what he brought to the Garage. Just Shafer and his old, beat-up Gibson acoustic guitar. The instrument is like the Millennium Falcon. It might not look like much, but, boy, you should see it go. Shafer brings out the guitar’s rich tone with a picking style that can be complex or playful. His voice is bluesy, but it’s also pretty. Not flowery pretty — more like mountain gorge pretty.
Actually, Shafer was not exactly alone. Roadie, his dog, hung out in the studio as Shafer performed. Every traveling musician needs a Roadie.
