Colorado-born Yonder, Leftover jam Telluride’s third day lineup

11:45 a.m. June 22, 2013, in a swirling red dust devil at Telluride Town Park – Two signature Colorado jamgrass bands take the stage today at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival where they were essentially born, following a strong set Friday by another local establishment, String Cheese Incident. In between them is the annual set by Sam Bush. His New Grass Revival band inspired the formation of Leftover/String Cheese/Yonder and other outfits. I’ve enjoyed watching the movement grow over the decades.  Looking at my archival, one-sheet festival guide for the  5th Annual Telluride Bluegrass and Country Festival, the June 24, 1978 Saturday lineup featured Live Wire Choir, Lost in the Shuffle, Dan Crary, New Grass Revival, Vassar Clements and the Evening Jam starting at 8:30 p.m. That year also featured Hot Rize and John Hartford.

Coming up today: Sara Watkins (from Nickel Creek), a rare Jerry Douglas Band set, Boulder’s Yonder Mountain String Band, singer/songwriter Feist, Sam Bush Band, and Leftover Salmon.

Listen in: Most of today’s music is being streamed live at koto.org
